ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC .
Founded in January 1919, Beta Lambda is the first Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter established west of the Mississippi River, and only the second alumni chapter authorized by our national organization. Beta Lambda's legacy of service to this fraternity began in 1920 when we became the first alumni chapter to host our national convention. Since then we have hosted our 1940, 1950 and 1988 national conventions, along with the 1960 and 1975 Midwestern regional conventions.
Beyond our involvement with fraternal affairs, Beta Lambda plays a major role in the economic, political and social fabric of Kansas City. As in its earlier days, Beta Lambda's members volunteer their time and resources to assist our youth in educational workshops, career seminars, serving as role models, and providing college scholarships to deserving Kansas City area high school students.
Beta Lambda has traveled many miles since 1919, and we look forward to the challenges which lie ahead. Beta Lambda currently has a membership of 78 brothers, including 50 Life members. The chapter participates and supports all Alpha programs and projects on the Local, State and National levels.
Our quest will continue to be guided by the fraternity motto:
"First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All."
